If you've ever looked at a gallery and thought "How do people look so relaxed and real in these photos?" Well, you're not alone. The truth is, those natural, joy filled, golden hour moments don't always just happen. They are created through a thoughtful, candid approach.

Hi, I'm Elena, a Centerville, Ohio based photographer who specializes in warm, emotional photography & content creation for couples, expecting parents, and intimate wedding days. I don't believe in full galleries with stiff posing and forced smiles. I believe in you being fully yourself, and me creating a space where that's not only allowed, but encouraged.

Here is what to expect when you book a candid session with me, and how to get photos that feel true to you.

I. We'll Start Slow

Most people feel a little nervous in front of the camera, I totally get that! That's why I guide you gently into a session with easy prompts, movement, and conversation.

You'll never hear me say "say cheese".

Instead, I might ask you to:

  • Walk together and snuggle in close
  • Spin in a circle or toss your kid in the air
  • Just sit together and close your eyes, be in the moment with each other

That's how we get real moments, real memories.

II. Outfits Matter

You don't need to stress about looking like a Pinterest board. I recommend wearing something you can move in and feel comfortable in. No scratchy lace or stiff collars required.

For couples and maternity sessions, warm earthy tones (like cream, olive, terracotta, etc.) photograph beautifully in golden hour light. Flowing dresses, cozy sweaters, and layers are your best friend. I am always happy to help pick outfits or send a style guide before the session!

III. Golden Hour is Our Best Friend

That dreamy, glowing light you see in photos? That is golden hour. The hour right after sunrise, and right before sunset. It creates soft, cinematic, flattering tones and a natural warmth that fits the feeling of a memory perfectly.

Mid day sessions can have a harsh light and color bouncing effect that is not very flattering to skin. Rainy/snow days can be absolutely amazing, if we plan accordingly.

When you book with me, I usually try to schedule around golden hour, for the best lighting and mood.

IV. Candid Doesn't Mean Chaotic, It Means Intentional

Just because we aren't posing in a traditional way, doesn't mean your session won't be guided. I'll direct you the whole time so you never feel lost, but in a way that you still have space to be yourselves. There are very few times during a portrait session that "candid" photos are actually captured just as you are. However, I am a sucker for the in between moments that you weren't expecting. In your final gallery, you'll have small details that you may have missed, or moments you didn't even realize were being captured.

That's where the magic happens.

Being yourselves in an intentional way, letting your hair fly in the wind, belly laughing to inside jokes, playing your hype playlist, that is what I am here to capture. The real you.

V. Let Go of Perfection, You Already Look Amazing

You don't need to lose 10 pounds, have perfect skin, or know how to pose perfectly. My job is to see you as you really are, connected, alive, and BEAUTIFUL. The only thing you need to do, is be your authentic self!

When you look back at these photos, you should feel joy, and comfort. Knowing you created a memory and captured it just as it happened.
