Portrait Prep Guide

Let's make some memories

Hi! My name is Elena.
I want to take a moment and explain why photography means so much to me. Over time, I've taught myself to see the beauty in everything, and my camera helps me share that perspective with the rest of the world.
Whether I'm exploring nature, or capturing people's connections, this work lets me show what makes life so incredible. I did not choose photography as a career, photography is what I was always meant to do. Thank you for your support <3

Choosing your outfit(s)

An engagement photo session at Hidden Valley Orchard in Lebanon Ohio with a couple posing near a tree looking at each other smiling.

Coordinate, Don't Match

Pick complementary colors and styles rather than identical outfits. Think soft neutrals, earthy tones, or muted colors for a timeless vibe.

Comfort First

Choose clothes you feel good in. Confidence looks great in photos!

Keep in mind: You chose to have these memories captured to look back on and remember the feeling you had in them. Don't wear something that takes away from that.

Avoid Distracting Patterns

Small, busy patterns or large logos can take the focus off of you. Stick to solid colors or subtle prints.

Tip: Knit sweaters, lace details, or denim can add depth to your photos.

Dress for the Season

Layers and cozy textures work well in cooler months, while flowy fabrics shine in summer.

Remember: Comfort and confidence is key!

Hair & Makeup

Keep it Timeless

Stick to styles that feel like "you", but a slightly polished version. Soft curls, natural makeup, or a fresh shave can make a big difference.

Professional Touch

If preferred, you can book a professional for hair and makeup. It can boost your confidence and give a polished look in photos.

Stay true to yourself

Avoid trying anything brand new right before your session. Comfort, and familiarity shine through!

Prep Matters

For hair, aim for clean and styled. For makeup, opt for matte finishes to reduce shine.

A freshly edged up beard and neck will also be worth it!

What to Expect During Your Session

Relax

I'll guide you through poses and prompts that feel natural, so there's no need to stress about "what to do". However, if there are certain ideas you'd like to execute, feel free to let me know!

and be yourself

Movement

Expect lots of walking, laughing, and playful moments. These create the most authentic shots. We will still get the photo of you smiling and looking at the camera, but I usually like to focus on the in between, genuine moments.

over perfection

Golden

If your session is outdoors, we should aim for the best natural light, usually close to sunrise or sunset. Overcast days are also ideal. Any direct sunlight days are very harsh and can bounce colors from your surroundings onto your skin.

FAQ

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

No worries! We can reschedule, or switch to a cozy indoor location if needed. Terms and conditions apply.
If I am being honest though, some of my favorite and most memorable sessions have been in the rain/snow!

Can I bring props or pets?

Absolutely! Just let me know during your booking process so I can prepare! (Studio sessions require an additional fee for pets)

How many outfits can I bring?

For most sessions, 1-2 outfits work best to keep things smooth and relaxed.

Can film photos or content creation be added afterwards?

Unfortunately, no. These two add-ons can only be added before our session together. This is so that I know to bring the specific gear for each one. If you'd like to add either one to your session, please let me know prior to our session, at least 48 hours, so I can promptly send the invoice.

Do you edit the photos?

Yes, all images are professionally edited to enhance lighting, colors, and details. I will not change your appearance.

Can I reschedule if something comes up?

Yes, you can reschedule once for free. Additional reschedules will require a fee.

What if I am unsure about a pose?

Don't worry at all! I will do my best to guide you through prompts and poses that feel natural and relaxed. I do not want you to do anything you are uncomfortable with, feel free to say no at any time! This is a judgement free zone!
